- NASA GATHERS MORE INFORMATION ABOUT MILE LONG 1999 ASTEROID

~!~ The 1.2 mile long asteroid, dubbed 1999 JD6, made its closest pass of Earth in more than a century, coming within a distance of 4.5 million miles. It was traveling at a relative speed of 45,410 miles per hour (20.3 km/s).
~!~ American space agency NASA used its Goldstone, Calif. based Deep Space Network antenna and West Virginia based National Science Foundation*s Green Bank Telescope to bounce radar signals off the fast moving asteroid to produce its various images. (ukcanadaus)
